HEMA History – A success story
Since 1977 HEMA designs and manufactures high quality machine protection systems. From a small company, we have grown over the past decades into a globally active company with today around 600 employees.
- The beginning: Bellows production in an old leather goods factory.
HEMA's first product was bellows. A small workforce produced the protective systems in various designs in the premises of a former leather factory. The beginning was not easy: The young company first had to make a name for itself on the market.
- Extension of the product portfolio
In 1979, HEMA incorporated coil springs and roller covers in its program, in the 1990s came to machine safety windows and clamping and braking systems. After the turn of the millennium, the product range was finally expanded to include LED lighting systems. Today, the company offers a wide range of protection, vision, lighting, clamping and braking systems - everything for the production machine from a single source.
- New markets
In the 1970s, HEMA delivered most of its products to domestic customers. However, Austria and Denmark soon added the first foreign markets, followed by Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Finland.
HEMA now operates plants in Germany, Italy, Romania and China. Sales partners around the globe guarantee an almost complete distribution of the products and a comprehensive service.
- Expansion of production capacities
Over the years, HEMA has expanded its production to meet growing demand.
In 2008, the Romanian site founded in 1994 moved into its own, modern building complex in Arad with a significantly expanded production area. In 2019 it was extended again.
In Germany, a large manufacturing complex was inaugurated in 2012 at the company headquarters in Seligenstadt. In 2016, the administrative staff also got a new office building. In 2019, after more than 40 years, the company headquarters were relocated to the new office location.
In Italy, HEMA Italia celebrated the inauguration of a new 2,650 square meter earthquake-resistant manufacturing and administration building.
HEMA ZHAO in Qingdao, China, also got new, larger production facilities in 2018.
