When it comes to bellows, there is no such thing as "impossible." HEMA equips systems utilizing newer manufacturing technologies with its proven machine protection solutions. One of these technologies is industrial 3D printing.
Industrial 3D printing is increasingly establishing itself as a relatively new manufacturing process. Whether for prototypes, pre-production runs, or small-batch production, the range of applications is enormous. As a leading provider of machine protection solutions, HEMA manufactures specialized bellows solutions designed to meet the temperature requirements of 3D printing. Tailoring the design and engineering to the specific application is crucial in this regard.
Bellows protect heat-sensitive areas.
In industrial 3D printing, thermoplastic injection molding granules are processed by the printer and deposited three-dimensionally, line by line, to form an object. Specifically in Composite Extrusion Modeling, the 3D printers utilize a metal powder bound within plastic granules, where the plastic component is melted. This process can generate temperatures of up to 275°C on the heating plate and up to 200°C within the build chamber.
In this application, bellows serve as a flexible barrier for the workspace. They retain heat within the build chamber and protect heat-sensitive areas. These bellows are manufactured from specialized technical fabrics that are, for example, self-extinguishing.
Heat-resistant joining techniques for high stability
In addition to selecting the right bellows material, the proper fabrication of the bellows is crucial. For high-temperature applications, HEMA designs protective systems in a special configuration that eliminates adhesives and PVC support frames used for dimensional stability. For bellows used in CNC manufacturing, alternative joining techniques—such as thermal bonding or HF welding—are employed.
Regardless of the temperature range or manufacturing process, reliable protective systems are not off-the-shelf products; custom-designed bellows protect components and ensure the longevity of the machinery.
